"Good" Charr = fail.
How the encounter with Pyre Fierceshot should have gone:
Gwen: *angry noises, flogging Pyre mercilessly with her wand*
Pyre: *angry noises, taunts*
You: Well, what have we here? Gwen, stop killing him for a second.
Gwen: *complaining*
Pyre: *taunts you about your lost Ebon Vanguard comrades*
You: *inquires not-so-politely about Ebon Vanguard whereabouts*
Pyre: *derisive mocking*
Gwen: OK, screw this. *uses her Mesmer powers to burn a glowy little mark on Pyre's forehead saying "This Charr belongs to (player character) and is bound to his will, because Domination mesmers can do that, b*tch." *self-satisfied laugh* Now talk, hairball.
Pyre: *spews insults and taunts, glowy mark flares brightly, howls in agony*
You: Wrong answer. Try again.
Pyre: *grudgingly reveals details*
You: Good, Charr, good. As long as I have you at my beck and call, I think you should make yourself useful. Pick up that bow, and fall in line, until I think of a better use for you.
Pyre *growls* My NAME is PYRE! PYRE FIERCESHOT! And when I remove this cursed mark from my forehead, I will write my name on the ground with your entrails, you... *glowy mark flares* AAAAAGH!
You: Wow, that's a neat trick, Gwen. How long will it last?
Gwen: As long as it needs to.

Somehow I'm not at all surprised.
And how on earth is this radically different from what actually occurred? Why does the magical (and painful!) bondage appeal to you so much?

All Charr = bastards, sworn enemies of anything that isn't a Charr. The whole idea of "Well, we're a different caste, we're not in the same boat as them, I don't like them much either *snivel* *sulk*" is asinine. So how do you make a hateful bastard like him cooperate? Make him hurt, a lot.
Also, what do my sexual proclivities and tastes in artwork and pornography have to do with this? If you're making the all-too-common allusion that because of my tastes I get a total hard-on for the Charr and I think they're awesome and blahblahblah, you're an arrogant (and incorrect) moron. I really don't care what the hell the Charr look like for the purposes of my rewrite (or the plot of the damn game), whether they look like furrybait or midget Martians or whatever. The fact of the story is: Charr bad. Charr hate us. "Good" Charr = bulls**t.
EDIT: I seriously think they should have made a Mesmer Domination offhand that was a coiled whip.

Forced Character = fail. I'm not a sick son of a bitch - not because of the bondage, but because my character and myself would never, ever be that cruel.

I'd prefer not to be cast in the role of a sadist, thanks. Also, have you heard the phrase, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." ? I think the Charr revolt made perfect sense.

He's a Charr. He kills humans for FUN. Hell, he'd throw your sister in the soup pot in a heartbeat. But he's useful. Cruel? You aren't causing him unnecessary pain. Pain is pretty much only being used here to keep his ornery, prideful, nasty-tempered hide in line. Frankly this whole "good" Charr idea smacks of toothless, juvenile plotwriting and character development.

Charr aren't real. Charr are a race created by the designers in ArenaNet. ArenaNet can do whatever the hell they want with the Charr. So good Charr != bullshit.

So, you're complaining about a detail, in someone else's work, of which they are free to do whatever they wish with?
I could understand your anger if it was you who wrote the original story.

What you just said is a clear indicator of why storylines suck in games today for the most part. Apathy. Would you like it if Valve made the G-Man a good guy AND a playable character in the next Half-Life? Would you like it if Bethesda Softworks made an imaginary super-vault and talking Deathclaws appear in the Fallout world? (oh wait, that already happened... nvm, Fallout's hosed anyway) Or perhaps you'd like to see Mario go Quentin Tarantino on a dark, brooding crime-ridden Mushroom Kingdom, psychedelic mushrooms and flamethrower in hand?

It's a complaint about a wasted opportunity and a pulled punch in the GW:EN storyline, and also a rant about dull, toothless storyline and character development in games in general, with an emphasis on the GW mythos.

...That makes no sense. Pyre is very different compared to your examples. He's actually sane, and not a completele mindless brute.
Unless you're deliberately seeing past that...?

The G-Man is a good guy of sorts anyway. I've never played Fallout so I couldn't care. Also, doesn't that pretty much sum up all Mario games?
Stop whining. You don't decide what someone else's work will be. If you don't like the story, don't pay attention to it. Simple as that. Not all stories are catered to your particular likes and dislikes, grow up.
Also, if you played on with Pyre, you'd find that while he joins you willingly, he's not the goodie two shoes ally you seem to be portraying him as. He just sees reason and that his enemies are also yours, joining with you is a clear minded decision.

I agree with this. Well, I mean, it would be nice to have a choice, but in a story where the main character (i.e. our characters) is supposed to be the spotless hero, they would not be so cruel.
Believe it or not, Pyre is not nearly as one-dimensional as Gwen. He may not be deep, but he is more than just "Arrrgh, I will kill you all!!"
